MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Iowa State soccer team was level on shots (10) with Georgia and had more shots on goal than the Bulldogs, but the Cyclones fell 2-0 Sunday at the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. With the loss, Iowa State's season record dropped to 3-2-1.
Despite having five shots on goal to Georgia's four, the Cyclones were unable to find the back of the net for the second-straight game. The Cyclones also dominated on corner kicks, with five to the Bulldogs' one. Jennifer Dominguez and Kaeli Flaska tied for the team high on shots in the match with two.
Georgia (3-2-0) got off to a fast start with a goal 17:03 into the match by Bailey Powell. The 1-0 score line was nearly how the game ended until the Bulldogs' Ashley Miller made it 2-0 with 8:29 remaining.
After trailing in the shots category at the end of the first half 7-4, Iowa State controlled the second half on shots with a 6-3 edge over Georgia.
Freshman goalkeeper Andrea Swanson played the full 90 minutes in goal for Iowa State. The Clive, Iowa, native registered two saves and took the loss. Her record is 0-1.
Iowa State returns to action Friday against Iowa. The Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series match will be in Iowa City at 7 p.m.
