Military Hero of the Game
Jamie Dailey
COL Jamie Dailey grew up in the Quad Cities, enlisted in the Army after High School, and then attended and graduated from Iowa State University in 1991. He was commissioned through the ISU ROTC program and attended Flight School at Fort Rucker, AL, to become a CH-47 Chinook helicopter pilot. He held a variety of leadership positions through his career including command at the company, battalion, and brigade level. COL Dailey also graduated from the US Army War College. He has completed tours in Korea, Italy, Afghanistan, and Kosovo – where he will be returning with other elements from the Iowa Army National Guard’s 2nd Brigade Combat Team. Die hard Cyclone fans, he and his wife Michelle have two children: Natalie and Carter
Clint Hertz
Clint joined the Iowa Army National Guard in 2002, and is currently assigned as the Support Operations Officer for the 248th Aviation Support Battalion in Boone. Clint first deployed, during his time as an ISU student, to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004. Clint was later deployed a second time to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2010 where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. Clint has also served as an officer with the Ames Police Department since 2007 earning the Ames PD award of valor, and the Sullivan Brothers award for valor from the Governor. He and his wife Stacy have two children: Caraline and Clayton.
Kyle Obrecht
Lieutenant Colonel Kyle Obrecht currently has over 21 years of service and began his military career as an Infantryman when he enlisted into the Iowa Army National Guard. He went on to complete Officer Candidate School and was commissioned as an Infantry Officer in the Iowa Army National Guard. He has deployed to Kuwait, Iraq, and Afghanistan and most recently served in support of the Iowa National Guard’s COVID-19 Response. Lieutenant Colonel Obrecht has held several demanding leadership positions at the Platoon, Company, Battalion, and Brigade levels and is a graduate of the Command and General Staff Officer College and the US Army Ranger School. He is currently assigned as the 67th Troop Command Executive Officer and Officer-in-Charge in Iowa City, Iowa. His awards and decorations include the Order of Saint Maurice, the Ranger Tab, the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, the Pathfinder Badge, the Parachutist Badge, as well as many other Federal and State awards and decorations. His military service has inspired him to continually improve himself as a Soldier and a civilian and strive to better the organizations and communities of which he is a member. Lieutenant Colonel Obrecht is a lifelong Iowa State fan and supporter and currently resides in North Liberty, Iowa with his wife Ashlie, who is also an Army Veteran, and his two sons, James and Johnathan.
Jared Gledhill
Major Jared Gledhill currently has over 17 years of service with the Iowa Army National Guard. He graduated from Iowa State in 2005 and commissioned as a Second Lieutenant through the Cyclone Battalion Army ROTC program as an Armor Officer in the Iowa Army National Guard. He spent over 8 years working full time within the Iowa State Army ROTC Program. He is currently assigned as the 734 Regional Support Group Operations Officer and Second Officer-in-Charge at Camp Dodge, Johnston, IA . He deployed to Iraq in 2007-2008. Major Gledhill is a lifelong Iowa State fan and supporter who most game days can be found in section 8 and currently resides in Ankeny, Iowa with his wife Julie, who is Social Worker with the Veterans Administration in Des Moines, and their two children, Andrew and Meredith.
Mark Chidley
Colonel Mark Chidley is a 1989 Iowa State alum and lifelong Cyclone fan. He serves as the Wing Commander of the 132nd Wing, Iowa Air National Guard, where he is responsible for training, equipping, and preparing units and personnel. He began his career as an intelligence officer at the Peoria Air National Guard Base in Illinois before transferring to his current location in 1997. Mark has been an Iowa State season ticketholder since that time. He and his wife recently established the Chidley Family Scholarship in the Iowa State College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and his son graduated from the school in December 2019.
Master Sergeant Ludema
Master Sergeant Ludema has almost 20 years of Active Duty military service in the United States Army and will be retiring next fall. He has deployed to Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Republic of Korea and is currently serving as the Senior Military Science Instructor for the Army ROTC here at Iowa State University. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal, Combat Action Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, and Air Assault Badge. Master Sergeant Ludema currently resides here in Ames, Iowa with his wife Elaina, his two sons, Cavin (age 14) and Levi (age 11), and two daughters, Brynlee (age 9) and Mara (age 7).
