AMES, Iowa – It was looking to be a grim Senior Day at the Cyclone Soccer Complex, that was until Lucy Froitzheim netted an equalizer in the 90th minute to force a 1-1 draw with Drake Sunday night.
Iowa State (1-0-2, 0-0 Big 12) fell behind in the 56th minute off a Bulldog header. Drake (1-1-2, 0-0 MVC) would hold that lead up until the final seconds when a frantic Cyclone attack pushed one through to even the score and earn a Senior Day Draw. An Isabella Agruso throw-in found Lauren Hernandez, who headed the ball perfectly to Lucy Froizheim, who used her right boot to knock it past the Drake keeper. The goal is the latest scored by a Cyclone since Thursday when Agrusso scored the game-winner in the 89th minute at Creighton.
The goal for Froitzheim was the first of her career, while both Hernandez and Agrusso moved to three points on the season.

Megan Walters, Hernandez and Ella Ciardullo were tied for the team lead with two shots apiece. Both Hernandez and Ciardullo's pair of shots came on goal. Agrusso, Ella Zimmerman and Kasey Cannistraro were the only Cyclones to play all 90 minutes. Cannistraro had four saves on the night, while ISU also recorded a team save.
For Drake, Layla Kelbel led all athletes with four shots, placing three on target. Bulldog goal-scorer Angela Gutierrez had three shots of her own, placing two on net. Drake's keeper, Addie Ford, collected five saves on the night.
Drake held the edge in shots, 12-11, but Iowa State had the advantage in corners, 5-3. Each team had five saves, while Drake recorded more fouls (16-10).
How it Happened
Each side slow-played the start of the match, trading empty possessions throughout the first ten minutes. Drake tallied the contest's first shots at the 12-minute mark but saw each blocked by an ISU defender.
The Cyclones would fire off five shots in the first half, but saw three of them saved by Ford. At the half, Drake held a 6-5 shot advantage and collected three saves as the teams would go into the break knotted at nil.
Iowa State came out of the half firing, as the Cyclones rattled off a trio of shots in the first seven minutes but saw each turned away. A few seconds following a Drake corner kick, Gutierrez headed in a ball from Snowden to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute of play.
The Cyclones searched for an equalizer the remainder of the contest, seeing solid chances stopped by the Bulldogs multiple times. It wasn't until a last-ditch push from the Cyclones that a shot broke through the Drake defense.
Throwing the ball in with a little over 30 seconds left, Agrusso lofted a ball into the box right to Hernandez, who headed it forward to Froitzheim. Then, with a defender draped on her hip, Froitzheim poked one past the Drake keeper to knot things up with just under 30 seconds left.
Both sides held firm in the final ticks, as the game went on to a 1-1 draw.
Fannon's Thoughts
On the game:
"It is a great step that our team has taken to be so tough going into the closing stages of matches. We won't always play fantastically, so to grind out a late foal again is a top habit to have."
On his seniors:
"It's such an eclectic group of seniors, including a couple who are pretty new, and a couple who aren't able to take their senior year because of injury. But every one of them has served our program with passion and determination and we are very proud that they will always call Iowa State home."
