AMES, Iowa. - The Iowa State soccer team (5-7-0, 0-3-0 Big 12) fell to Big 12 foe Baylor (7-4-1, 2-0-0 Big 12) by a score of 1-0. The game's lone goal came midway through the first half from Baylor's Lauren Piercy off of an Amy Hoglund assist.
Baylor got the scoring going in the 28th minute. The Bears' Hoglund broke free on the right side, and sent a nice cross into the Cyclone penalty area. Piercy got a foot to it and put it away to give Baylor a 1-0 lead. The score marked Piercy's fifth of the season. The Bears and Cyclones traded blows to close out the half, but neither led to any goals. Baylor took a one goal advantage into the locker room at halftime.
The second half began much like the first ended. The Cyclones could only muster two shots in the second half, with only one on goal. Baylor was able to control the ball for much of the second half, and held on to steal a win from the Cyclones.
Turning Point of the Game
Lauren Piercy's first half goal. The Bears and Cyclones had been going back and forth early, each getting a number of shots off. Midway through the first though, Hoglund strung a perfect ball into the box and Piercy rattled it home for the eventual game winner.
Cyclone Game Ball Goes to…
Kourtney Camy. The Denver, Colorado, native tallied a team-high four shots and was solid for the Cyclones on the back line. Camy also recorded 90 minutes for Iowa State.
Coach Said It
“I think the real take away from this game was to come off of last weekend to step up to give the effort and the performance that they did tonight against a very good team,” head coach Tiny Minatta said. “I think it showed a lot of resolve and it shows that we can get back to where we need to be. It doesn't happen overnight when you have a drop off like we did. This is just another positive step forward and we need to bring the same effort to Kansas on Sunday.”
