Iowa State Falls to Kansas

AMES, Iowa. - The Iowa State soccer team (5-8-0, 0-4-0 Big 12) closed out the weekend, falling 4-0 to Kansas (6-5-1, 1-1-0 Big 12).

Kansas jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half. The Jayhawks first got on the board in the 28th minute. Parker Roberts received a nice ball that was played between Lisa Salazar and Hanna Kallmaier in the box and put it away to take a 1-0 lead. Quickly thereafter, Kansas drew a corner kick. In the 31st minute, Salazar roped a bending corner into the Cyclone penalty area. Jackie Georgoulis got her head to it and sent it home to extend Kansas' lead to 2-0.

The second half shaped up to be much like the first half. Kansas tacked on two more goals, one coming in the 56th minute and the last in the 68th. Ashley Williams found Grace Hagan in front of the net and Hagan put the Jayhawks up 3-0. Liana Salazar closed out the scoring as she rattled home a free kick from 20 yards out.

Turning Point of the Game
28'-31'. Before Roberts opened the scoring for the Jayhakws, both teams had been pretty even in possession and scoring opportunities. Following Roberts' goal and Kallamaier's header, it was all Kansas from there on out.

Coach Said It
“We started the same way that we played against Baylor, and we were hoping to build off of that,” head coach Tony Minatta said. “Today that didn't really work out. From our standpoint, it's back to the drawing board on Tuesday practice. It'll be open competition for starting spots again and we'll put the players out there that we feel give us the best chance.”
