AMES, Iowa –No. 18 Iowa State (2-2, 1-2 Big 12) was unable to overcome some struggles on beam and fell to Illinois State (2-7, 1-3 MIC) 194.150-193.875 Sunday afternoon at Horton Field House.
The Cyclones shone on the floor, with five performers scoring at or above a 9.800. Maddie Diab had her second powerful performance in as many competitions, following up her season-best 9.900 in West Virginia with a 9.875. Addy De Jesus also put on another strong showing, scoring a 39.350 in the all-around to hit her second highest-score of the season. De Jesus also picked up event wins for vault, beam and all-around and joined Diab in the event win on floor.
"Our team showed great character through the first three events this afternoon," associate head coach Nilson Medeiros Savage said. "Unfortunately, beam got the best of us. We had a lot of strong individual performances and are eager to get back in the gym to fix our mistakes and build on our strengths."
Floor Exercise
Iowa State had a season-best afternoon on floor, posting a 49.175. Maddie Diab and Addy De Jesus both posted scores of 9.875 to lead the Cyclones and tie for the event win. Ariana Orrego followed with a score of 9.825 in her season floor debut. Finishing out the scores for the Cyclones were Sophia Steinmeyer and Madelyn Langkamp, both with scores of 9.800.
Uneven Bars
The Cyclones started strong on the bars, posting a total score of 49.050. They were led by Madelyn Langkamp who earned a score of 9.850, setting a new season-high and tying her career best. She was closely followed by Addy De Jesus and Makayla Maxwell, both of whom notched scores of 9.825. Rounding out the scoring were Loganne Basuel and Natalie Horowitz, both with scores of 9.775.
Vault
Iowa State notched a team score of 48.850. Addy De Jesus picked up the event win with a score of 9.825. Phoebe Turner was close behind, leading off the rotation with a a 9.800 to tie her season high. Sophia Steinmeyer and Kelsey Boychuk both posted scores of 9.750, and Emilie Hong finished up the scoring with a 9.725.
Balance Beam
The Cyclones rounded out the meet with a total score 46.800 on the beam. Iowa State was led by Addy De Jesus who posted a score of 9.825 to pick up the event win. Sophia Steinmeyer closely followed with a score of 9.750. Unfortunately, four falls meant three had to be counted with Kelsey Boychuk and Ariana Orrego (9.175 each) and Makayla Maxwell (8.875) counting to the team total.
All-Around
Addy De Jesus was the lone all-arounder for Iowa State, scoring a 39.350 to pick up the event win.
