YPSILANTI, Michigan – Iowa State (8-2, 3-1 Big 12) defeated Eastern Michigan, the Air Force Academy, and Bowling Green Sunday at the Convocation Center. The Cyclones scored a 195.975 to top the Eagles (194.450), Air Force (192.200) and BGSU (194.300).
Natalie Horowitz continued her hot streak after being recognized as Big 12 Co-Event Specialist of the Week for her efforts against West Virginia last week. Horowitz scored a 9.875 in her career debut on the beam to share the event win with teammate Meixi Semple. Makayla Maxwell also impressed on the vault as she reached a new season high, earning a score of 9.925.
"We learned a lot today," head coach Jay Ronayne said. "This time of the year comes down to consistency. Being able to repeat good performances is going to get us to where we want to be. Competing two meets in one weekend is difficult but we can handle it. I don't pay much attention to the results. I care about the performance and making sure the athletes can repeat the same great performances. The results take care of themselves."
Uneven Bars
The Cyclones kept up the positive momentum on the uneven bars, notching a total score of 49.175. Addy De Jesus continued her strong streak on the bars, earning a score of 9.875. Natalie Horowitz followed closely behind with a score of 9.850. Makayla Maxwell and Madelyn Langkamp posted matching scores of 9.825 and Jade Vella-Wright contributed a 9.800.
Vault
Iowa State didn't slow down as they hit the vault, earning a score of 49.100. Makayla Maxwell led the scoring with a season high 9.925 to pick up the event win. Addy De Jesus, Emilie Hong, and Kelsey Boychuk all contributed scores of 9.800. Phoebe Turner finished up the scoring for the Cyclones with a 9.775.
Balance Beam
The Cyclones finished strong on the balance beam, totaling a score of 49.025. Meixi Semple and Natalie Horowitz posted matching 9.875s to share the event win. Addy De Jesus and Phoebe Turner contributed their own matching scores of 9.775. Sophia Steinmeyer rounded out the scores with a 9.725.
Floor Exercise
Iowa State began the day on floor, posting a total score of 48.675. Maddie Diab scored a 9.875 to win the event. Sophia Steinmeyer closely followed, notching a score of 9.825. Addy De Jesus earned a score of 9.750 and Kelsey Boychuk posted a 9.675. Rounding out the scoring was Andrea Maldonado with a 9.550.
All-Around
Addy De Jesus was the lone all-arounder for Iowa State, scoring a 39.200 to pick up the event win.
