AMES, Iowa – The 11th-ranked Iowa State Cyclones hit the road for the Big 12 opener Friday night at Wyoming. Following the first true road contest of the season for the Cyclones, Iowa State will face a pair of NAIA schools in Montana State-Northern and Providence on Sunday in Belgrade, Mont. Friday's match is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. (CT) at Arena-Auditorium and will be available on FloWrestling. There will be no video for Sunday's matches, but live results can be found on TrackWrestling.com.
KEY STORYLINES
-Iowa State blanked CSU Bakersfield 44-0 Wednesday night, posting a shutout for the second-straight match. Iowa State has outscored its last two opponents 100-0.
-The Cyclones and Cowboys are facing each other for the first time since 2017 and the first time in Laramie since 2016. Ian Parker and Jarrett Degen were both in the lineup for the Cyclones in 2017, with Degen picking up a 7-3 victory over Sam Turner.
-Sunday's duals will be a homecoming for sixth-year senior Jarrett Degen. He'll return to his hometown to wrestle in his high school gym for the final time. The four-time Montana State Champion went 184-8 during his high school career.
-In the latest set of team national rankings, Iowa State moved up to 11th in the NWCA Coaches Poll. The Cyclones also cracked the top 10 in the Intermat dual rankings, coming in at eighth. Wyoming is receiving votes in the NWCA poll, while being ranked 20th by Intermat and 19th by WIN Magazine.
-The Cyclones have tallied 124 takedowns in six duals this season, led by a team-high 24 from Yonger Bastida at 197 pounds. Bastida had seven in his last victory.
