MEDIA CENTER
No. 14 Iowa State takes on another elite non-conference challenge on Sunday afternoon, as the Cyclones meet No. 25 Villanova as part of the Invesco QQQ Basketball Hall of Fame Women's Showcase at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Overall:Â First Meeting
FOUR THINGS
3 – Iowa State and Villanova are meeting for the first time in program history, the third program during this season's non-conference slate the Cyclones have played for the first time (Cleveland State and Jacksonville).
7 – 3-pointers needed by Ashley Joens to become Iowa State's all-time leader in career 3-pointers. The school record is jointly held by Heather Ezell and Megan Taylor at 287.
871 – The Cyclones have made at least one 3-point field goal in an NCAA-record 871 consecutive games, a streak which encapsulates the entirety of the Bill Fennelly Era at Iowa State.
4,661 – Combined career points between Ashley Joens (2,545) and Villanova's Maddy Seigrist (2,116). This meeting will be the only non-conference regular season game in NCAA Division I this season that features teams with at least one player with 2,000 career points.
TAKING CARE OF THE ROCK
Juniors Lexi Donarski and Emily Ryan have been outstanding in running the Iowa State offense on multiple fronts, both in terms of distributing the ball and preventing turnovers. The duo have combined for 95 assists and just 32 turnovers, an assist-to-turnover ratio of just under 3.00. Ryan is 11th nationally in assists per game (6.7) and ninth in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.16).
Â
DOING A LOT IN LITTLE TIME
The Stephanie Soares Era at Iowa State was always going to be a quick one, with just one year of eligibility to make her impact on the program. She continues to adjust to the speed of NCAA Division I basketball but nine games in, she has shown she can hang at this level. In 23.6 minutes per game, Soares averages 16.0 points per game, 9.1 rebounds per game and 3.3 blocks per game (third nationally). Those numbers expanded to a Per-40 minutes rate would be 27.2 ppg, 15.5 rpg and 5.7 bpg.
