Southern Scuffle Primer

AMES, Iowa - No. 4 Iowa State is back in action at the Southern Scuffle, hosted by Chattanooga, Jan. 1-2 in Chattanooga, Tenn. A contingent of 14 Cyclones will compete in the tournament with pigtail matches beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1.

NOTABLE

Iowa State is No. 4 in this week's NWCA Coaches Poll, its highest ranking since 2009-10 when the Cyclones were No. 2 for the entire season.
ISU is back at the Southern Scuffle for the fifth time in program history and the first time since the 2019-20 season.
Marcus Coleman was named the Big 12 and NCAA Wrestler of the Week after he bumped up a weight class to 197 pounds and defeated a 2022 U23 World Silver Medalist and No. 23 Jacob Cardenas, and backed that up with a win over two-time defending national champion and top-ranked Aaron Brooks of Penn State.
Jason Kraisser has won three of his last four matches by a takedown. The 157-pounder uses his cardio to his advantage in the third period of matches and aims to wear down his opponent.
Julien Broderson looks to rebound after a tough back-to-back losses to No. 1 Carter Starocci (Penn State) and No. 6 Chris Foca (Cornell). Broderson went 1-2 at the Collegiate Duals with a win over No. 28 Mateo Olmos (Oregon State).
