IOWA STATE GAME NOTES
MEDIA CENTER
It is Cy-Hawk Week! No. 10 Iowa State heads to Iowa City to take on No. 16 Iowa on Wednesday, looking to return to Ames with a win in Iowa City for the first time since 2006. The Cyclones will also be looking for bragging rights over their in-state foe for a second-straight season and clinch the Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series for the Iowa State Athletics Department.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Overall: Iowa leads 30-23
In Iowa City:Â Iowa leads 19-6
Fennelly vs. Iowa:Â 14-12
FOUR THINGS
4 – Wednesday will mark the fourth time that Iowa State and Iowa have faced off with both teams being ranked. The Cyclones are 2-1 in such games, including last season's 77-70 win in Hilton Coliseum.
7 – Iowa State has lost in its last seven trips to Iowa City and Caver-Hawkeye Arena, a skid that dates back to 2006.
22 – Stephanie Soares has been busy at the rim for Iowa State so far this season, blocking 22 shots across the Cyclones' first seven games. Her 3.1 blocks per game ranks fourth nationally.
869 – The Cyclones have made at least one 3-point field goal in an NCAA-record 869 consecutive games, a streak which encapsulates the entirety of the Bill Fennelly Era at Iowa State.
LOCKDOWN LEXI
Lexi Donarski is one of the nation's top defensive players, and one of her biggest tests of the season will come on Wednesday against the nation's leading scorer in Caitlin Clark. Clark comes into the contest averaging 28.2 points per game, and while she did have 26 in Ames last season, Donarski made her work for them, as she did so on 10-of-26 shooting.
Â
IN COMMAND
Emily Ryan has once again proven herself as one of the nation's top point guards, ranking fifth in assists per game (7.1) and eighth in assist-to-turnover (3.57). She has continued to refine those numbers, which over the last four games have seen her dish out 34 assists (8.5 per game) to seven turnovers (4.75 A/TO).
