No. 18 Iowa State will look to extend its winning streak to four games with a top of the Big 12 standings showdown on Saturday against No. 14 Oklahoma at 3 p.m. inside Hilton Coliseum. ISU's defense and 3-point shooting were on display in a 75-35 defeat of TCU in Fort Worth on Wednesday night.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Overall:Â OU Leads 43-30
In Ames:Â ISU Leads 18-13
Fennelly vs. OU:Â 23-21
FOUR THINGS
2 – Wins needed by head coach Bill Fennelly to reach 750 for his career. Of those 748, 582 have come during his tenure at Iowa State (the other 166 at Toledo).
4 – Iowa State has beaten Oklahoma the last four times the Sooners have visited Hilton Coliseum. OU's last win in Ames came on New Years Eve of 2017.
10 – With 10 more points, Ashley Joens will move past Oklahoma's Courtney Paris (2006-09) for third in Big 12 history for career points.
880 – The Cyclones have made at least one 3-point field goal in an NCAA-record 880 consecutive games, a streak which encapsulates the entirety of the Bill Fennelly Era at Iowa State.
WHEN IT RAINS, IT POURS
Iowa State has been a noted 3-point shooting machine over the years, but the cogs had not always ran the smoothest this season, with the Cyclones struggling for both quantity and quality early in the season. That has changed in Big 12 play and especially across the Cyclones' three-game winning streak. In the last three games, the Cyclones have hit 11.7 3-pointers per game at 39.3 percent. Lexi Donarski in particular has stepped up, now having three 3-pointers in back-to-back contests.
LOCKDOWN CYCLONES
The term 'Lockdown Lexi' has been thrown around to describe the stifling defense of the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year. That has not changed (on Wednesday night, she held TCU's Tomi Taiwo, who entered the game at 14.6 ppg, to two points on 1-of-4 shooting), but the rest of the Cyclones have chipped in. Iowa State has now held five opponents to under 30 percent shooting, the ninth time under head coach Bill Fennelly the Cyclones have done so. The Fennelly Era record for most sub-30 shooting performances by opponents in eight, done in both 2010-11 and 2012-13.
