61 Named to Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team

AMES, Iowa – The Big 12 Conference named 61 Iowa State student-athletes to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team for the 2022-23 year, announced by the league Wednesday.
The honorees included student-athletes from football (9), men's golf (2), women's golf (2), gymnastics (2), men's basketball (2), soccer (5), softball (2), swimming and diving (4), men's track and field (4), women's track and field (9), volleyball (4), women's basketball (1), wrestling (7), men's cross country (4) and women's cross country (4).
The Cyclones had four All-Big 12 Rookie Team members register a 4.00 GPA; Dahlia Gardiner (women's track and field), Kailynn Gubbels (women's track and field), Ernie Mattson (men's XC/track and field) and Kaylee Tobaben (women's XC/track and field).
The All-Big 12 Rookie Team honors student-athletes who are freshmen or new to their school. Members were nominated by the director of student-athlete support services and must be new or first-time/incoming freshmen who have completed 24 semester hours while achieving a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00. Honorees must also have participated in at least one of their team's scheduled contests and have been a member of their team for the entire NCAA Championship segment.
