October Student-Athletes of the Month Named

AMES, Iowa – Caleb Bacon, Marina Gonzalez, Hunter Johnson and Andie Quirke have earned Student-Athletes of the Month for October, Iowa State Athletics Academic Services announced.
Caleb Bacon – Football
Hometown: Lake Mills, Iowa
Bacon has recorded 31 tackles (16 solo) so far in his redshirt-sophomore season, the fourth-highest total on the team, and a team-leading 5.5 tackles for loss. The linebacker also earned a spot on the Lombardi Award Midseason Watch List this season. Bacon is an Academic All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll member.
Marina Gonzalez – Gymnastics
Hometown: Madrid, Spain
Gonzalez competed at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with the Spain National Team, notching 32nd on floor and 12th in the team standings. Gonzalez also won silver in the all-around at the 2019 Spanish National Championship and gold on floor at the 2019 Szombathely World Cup. Academically, the gymnast earned a spot on the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Hunter Johnson – Men's Golf
Hometown: Ankeny, Iowa
Johnson set a career-low 224 54-hole total to finish 50th at the Hawkeye Invitational and notched a career low of 69 in the second round at the Minnesota Gold Classic in 2022-23. In high school, the golfer was named the 2020 Player of the Year by the Iowa Golf Coaches Association and was a three-time qualifier for the U.S. Junior Amateur.
Andie Quirke – Swimming and Diving
Hometown: Auckland, New Zealand
Quirke ranks as a top performer in Iowa State history in the 100 freestyle and in three relays. The sprint freestyler has notched multiple top-three finishes including a victory in the 100 free to begin her senior season. Quirke is also an Academic All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll member.
