IOWA STATE GAME NOTES
MEDIA CENTER
The No. 17 Iowa State women's basketball postseason has already gotten off to a sensational start, and the Cyclones will look to continue that in the First Round of the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship as a No. 5 seed against No. 12 seed Toledo Saturday at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tennessee.
INSIDE THE SERIES
Overall:Â First Meeting
FOUR THINGS
10 – Now at 3,037 career points, Ashley Joens is 10th in NCAA Division I Women's Basketball history for career scoring.
21 – Iowa State is appearing in the NCAA Women's Basketball Championship for the 21st time in program history, all of the appearances coming under head coach Bill Fennelly.
22 – Iowa State ended a 22-year drought without a Big 12 trophy on Sunday when the Cyclones claimed the 2023 Phillips 66 Big 12 Women's Basketball Championship trophy. It was the fourth Big 12 trophy of the Fennelly tenure, with ISU claiming a share of the regular season trophy in 2000 and tournament championships in 2000 and 2001.
893 – The Cyclones have made at least one 3-point field goal in an NCAA-record 893 consecutive games, a streak which encapsulates the entirety of the Bill Fennelly Era at Iowa State.
WHO ELSE?
We were always going to be leading this off with Ashley Joens, who guided the Cyclones to last weekend's Big 12 Tournament Title. Joens was the unanimous selection for the Championship's Most Outstanding Player, as she averaged 26.7 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game over the three contests. Her outstanding fifth season in Cardinal and Gold was rewarded with Second Team All-America honors from the USBWA and Third Team All-America honors by the Associated Press, both of which were announced on Wednesday.
TOURNAMENT SUCCESS
Iowa State has claimed 21 wins in its previous 20 NCAA Championship trips, all coming under head coach Bill Fennelly. He has guided the Cyclones to the second weekend of the tournament six times, which includes a pair of Elite Eight trips.
