February and March Student-Athletes of the Month Named

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State Academic Services has named the February and March Student-Athletes of the Month. For February, the honorees are Isa Agrusso, Kaityln Burson, Luke Gutschewski and Tyler Maro and the March recipients are Conor Euton, Beau Freyler, Tianna Poole and Kiersten Schmitt.
February
Isa Agrusso, Soccer
In Agrusso's first season with the Cyclones, the sophomore logged 595 minutes and a pair of shots with both being on goal. Agrusso made three starts and played a career-high 56 minutes in 2023. Agrusso is also a Big 12 Commisioner's Honor Roll member.
Kaitlyn Burson, Track and Field
Burson is currently in her second season competing for Iowa State and has already downed both the hammer and weight throw school records. Burson also took hold of bronze medals in the weight and hammer throw at Big 12 Championships and is a two-time NCAA West Prelims qualifier in the hammer.
Luke Gutschewski, Golf
Currently in his junior campaign, Gutschewski picked up the win at the Zach Johnson Invite and broke the school record for the lowest three round score. As a sophomore, Gutschewski became just the second sophomore in program history to earn a NCAA Regionals selection. In his first season, he earned Stroke Play Medalist Honors and earned the No. 1 seed at the 2022 U.S. Amateur Championship.
Tyler Maro, Football
Maro completed his redshirt sophomore season in 2023 and played in eight games on special teams and as a backup offensive lineman. Maro also played in eight games in the 2022 season. The offensive lineman is an Academic All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll member.

Conor Euton, Wrestling
In 2023-24, the redshirt freshman went 20-4 overall and led the team with nine tech falls and tied for most bonus point wins with 17. In his high school career, Euton became a two-time state champ and went 39-0 as a junior and 37-2 as a senior.
Beau Freyler, Football
Freyler picked up Second Team All-Big 12 honors from the AP as a junior in the 2023 season and totaled 107 tackles to become the first Cyclone since 2017 to reach 100. Freyler earned Honorable Mention All-Big 12 in his first two seasons. The defensive back is a CSC First Team Academic All-American.
Tianna Poole, Softball
Currently in her sophomore season, Poole is hitting at .260 and has drove in 16 runs. Last season Poole led all first year players starting in 47 games and totaled 28 hits at a .250 batting average. Also as a freshman, Poole had five extra-base hits including two home runs. The outfielder is a two-time Big 12 Commissioner's honor roll member.
Kiersten Schmitt, Volleyball
Schmitt played in 20 sets across 10 matches in 2023 as a redshirt freshman, totaling 29 kills, 17 digs and 13 blocks. Schmitt had a top performance hitting 10 kills at .444 hitting in the win over Iowa. Academically, Schmitt is an Academic All-Big 12 First Team and Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll member.
