AMES, Iowa – No. 14 Iowa State (3-0, 0-0 Big 12) cruised past Sacred Heart (0-2, 0-0 MAAC) by a score of 99-34 Sunday afternoon inside Hilton Coliseum.
The Cyclones controlled both sides of the floor today, shooting 56 percent from the field and 39 percent from beyond the arc, forcing 25 turnovers and scoring 33 points off of it. Led by Audi Crooks with her third-straight 20-point game to start the season, five Cyclones finished in double figures.
How it Happened
Jada Williams got things started for ISU with a layup to tie it up 2-2. A well-balanced offensive attack sparked an 11-2 run with baskets from four different Cyclones to lead 13-6 heading into the first media timeout. A triple from Sydney Harris pushed the lead to 12 at the 3:26 mark. A steal from Evangelia Paulk led to a Reese Beaty basket at the rim to lead 25-10 and force Sacred Heart's first timeout with two minutes to go in the quarter. Kenzie Hare knocked down three free throws to cap off a 32 point first quarter, where eight Cyclones got into the scoring column and led 32-14.
An end-around pass from Beaty on the baseline led to an Arianna Jackson corner three to start off the second quarter. Beaty would bank in her first career triple on the ensuing possession to bring the lead to 24. Crooks would crack double digits with a basket at the rim to extend her double-figure streak to 70 games and start the game 5-of-5 from the field. The Iowa State defense allowed just one basket in the second quarter, forcing Sacred Heart to shoot 1-12 from the field and forced eight turnovers. The Cyclones ended the half on a 16-0 run led by Addy Brown's 100th career triple and headed into the break up 54-17.
Crooks scored the Cyclones first eight points of the second half to increase the lead to 40 at the 6:22 mark. ISU continued to roll on both sides of the floor, leading 78-24 after three quarters.
Iowa State would go on to win 99-34.
