Cyclones Head to the Wyoming Cowboy Classic

AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State men's golf team will look to keep things rolling as they compete in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Maricopa, Arizona starting Monday, March 31st.

COURSE INFORMATION

The championship Australian Sand Belt-style golf course sits on 320 acres of land that was once a part of Ak-Chin's original May 1912 reservation before it was removed by Presidential Executive Order in late 1912. Nearly 100 years later, in 2010, the Community recovered its sacred land when it purchased the Brian Curley and Fred Couples designed facility after it was originally developed as a private club.

KEY STORYLINES

- The Cyclones won the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate last week, their third tournament victory of the season. The team shot the second-lowest round in school history, carding a 268 (-20) in the final round to complete the sixteen stroke comeback and secure the win.
- Zach May earned his first tournament win as well, shooting a career-low 206 as well as tying his lowest round of his career (66) in the final round to help him finish ten under-par.
- Paul Beauvy finished in a tie for third (-7) at the Bell Bank Collegiate, his second Top-3 finish of the season. Owen Sawyer shot his lowest round of the season, carding a 67 in the final round to help him finish in a tie for seventh (-5).
- Beauvy sits in first on the lowest stroke average in a season list in school history, currently shooting 70.62 strokes per round. Luke Gutschewski is in ninth with 71.43. No Cyclone has ever averaged sub-70 throughout a season.
- The Cyclones currently have three golfers inside the Top-10 of the career stroke average list. Gutschewski sits atop the list at 71.54, Beauvy is in second with 71.75, and Owen Sawyer is eighth with 72.67.
- Iowa State has won two other tournaments on the year, winning the Gopher Invitational and the Zach Johnson Invitational in the fall.
