AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head wrestling coach Kevin Dresser announced the signing of 2025 NJCAA National Champion Melton Powe Wednesday afternoon. Powe, an athletic 165-pounder, is a redshirt junior with two years of eligibility remaining.
"We are excited to officially sign Melton to the squad," Dresser said. "He comes from a wrestling family and will be a great addition to the room. He likes to push the pace in his matches and will elevate the level of competition for our middleweights."
Powe, a transfer from Pratt (Kan.) Community College, posted a 46-2 record with 39 bonus-point victories during the 2024-25 season (11 falls, 22 tech falls, six major decisions). His first three wins at the NJCAA National Championships all came via tech fall.
A Mount Olive, Alabama native, Powe went 11-2 against NCAA Division I and II wrestlers last season, including a 1-1 mark against DI opponents.
Powe was a three-time Alabama state champion as a prep wrestler.
