Cyclones Set for 2025 US Open Wrestling Championships

AMES, Iowa – Six current, former and future Cyclones are set to compete at the US Open Wrestling Championships, in both the U20 and Senior Level Men's Freestyle divisions, this weekend in Las Vegas. The US Open serves as the first step toward making the USA World Team and an opportunity to compete at the World Championships.

Freshmen Adrian Meza (61 kg) and Kane Naaktgeboren (70 kg), along with signee Christian Castillo (57 kg), will compete in the U20 men's freestyle division. Former Cyclones David Carr (74 kg) and Marcus Coleman (86 kg) will wrestle in the senior level men's freestyle division.

Also of rooting interest for ISU wrestling fans are three resident athletes of the Cyclone Regional Training Center who will be competing in the senior level men's freestyle division – Dayne Morton (70 kg), Brandon Murray (79 kg) and Duncan Lee (97 kg).

Former Cyclone and current Virginia assistant coach Ian Parker (70 kg) will also be wrestling in the senior level men's freestyle competition with the Cavalier Wrestling Club (Virginia).

Senior level men's freestyle action begins Friday at Noon (CT) and will conclude with the finals Saturday at 8 p.m. The US Open winner will advance to Final X at the same weight category in which they won. If a weight has a returning World/Olympic medal winner, Final X is then set. If there is no returning medalist at the same weight, the second Final X participant will be determined at World Team Trials.

The U20 men's freestyle competition begins Saturday at noon with finals taking place on Sunday in the late afternoon and early evening. The winner of the U20 US Open will earn an automatic berth to the best-of-three wrestle-off series against the World Team Trials challenge tournament champion.

Every match from the US Open Wrestling Championships will be streamed live on FloWrestling.
