David Carr Wins World Team Trials; Advances to Final X

LOUISVILLE - David Carr defeated Jarrett Jacques to win the 74 kg bracket at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in Louisville Saturday afternoon. Carr advances to Final X on June 14 where he will face Mitchell Mesenbrink, the winner of last month's US Open, in a best 2-of-3 series for a spot on the USA World Team.
Carr (CRTC/TMWC) was much the aggressor in his finals bout against Jacques (Tiger Style Wrestling Club) but was unable to finish his attacks for takedowns. Instead, the former Cyclone got a step out point in the first period and a passivity point in the second for a 2-0 victory.
Carr went 3-0 at the World Team Trials Challenge with wins over Ed Scott and Terrell Barraclough on Friday to advance to Saturday's finals.
Final X, which will determine Team USA for the 2025 World Championships, is set for June 14 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.
