Geneva, OHIO - Daniel Herrera became a U23 freestyle national champion Sunday evening at the 2025 U23 Nationals & U20 World Team Trials in Geneva, Ohio. Herrera defeated Crew Howard (Nebraska Golden Eagles WC) in the 125 kg best-of-three finals, 6-3, in match one and, 10-0, in match two.Â
The highest-ranked, age-eligible athlete from the Senior National Team typically gets the U23 World Team spot. Herrera's national title means that he would be Team USA's representative at the 2025 U23 World Championships if no member of the Senior National Team is age-group eligible or claims the spot.
Herrera went 7-0 on the weekend with three wins via technical fall, one of which came in the best-of-three finals.Â
