Student-Athletes of the Spring Semester Named

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State Academic Services has named the Student Athletes of the 2025 Spring Semester. The honorees are Grace Marek, Lauren Hernandez, Trevor Buhr and Jacob Cates.
Grace Marek, Swimming and Diving
Marek was named the Female Emerging Student-Athlete of the Semester. Marek is a diver and placed top five against both Kansas and South Dakota in her first season out. She moved on to final at the Hawkeye Invite and scored points for ISU. Marek is also a Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll member.
Lauren Hernandez, Soccer
Hernandez picks up Female Excelling Student-Athlete of the Semester. Hernandez completed her junior season in 2024 as a midfielder. She was one of two Cyclones to start all 18 matches and had a goal against Baylor. Academically, Hernandez has earned CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-Big 12 First Team.
Trevor Buhr, Football
Buhr is the Male Emerging Student-Athlete of the Semester. Buhr made six starts in 13 games as an offensive lineman in 2024. He helped the Cyclones rush for 27 touchdowns which ties for the fourth-most in school history. Buhr is a Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll member.
Jacob Cates, Wrestling
Cates earns Male Excelling Student-Athlete of the Semester. Cates won thee matches in the 2024-25 season and recorded one pin and one major decision. He wrestled at the Luther, Grandview and Cyclone Open at 197 pounds. Cates is also a Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll Member.
