AMES, Iowa – Rachel Van Gorp is the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week once again as the league honored the libero Tuesday. It is Van Gorp's third Big 12 defensive honor this season.
Van Gorp also earned her spot on the Big 12 Starting Seven in this week's awards and is the one and only libero to earn multiple defensive honors this season.
The court defender is now a five-time Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, joining an elite group of four other Cyclones who have picked up five or more through their careers.
Last week, Van Gorp had 15 digs in just three sets in the Kansas State victory, and followed that up with 21 in four sets in the road win at Cincinnati. It was the libero's fifth match this season with 20-plus. Van Gorp also had a perfect reception percentage on 24 receptions and totaled eight assists and an ace.
Van Gorp continues to lead the Big 12 in digs this season with 4.60 per set. The average ranks 26th through all Division I players.
Iowa State now owns 70 total Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors since the award's 2007 introduction. The league's next highest team total is 32.
Van Gorp returns home this week hosting No. 25 Colorado Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Utah Saturday at 2 p.m.
