LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Cyclone men's golf team finished 11th at the Lexington Collegiate Classic, posting an 869 (+17) over three rounds at Lexington Country Club.
Freshman Ben Wheeler led the way for Iowa State, finishing tied for 21st at 1-over. His 54-hole score of 214 (+1) is the second-best of the Cyclones' season and the best of his career. Wheeler opened the tournament with a career-best 69 (-2) and tied for ninth in the field with a 4.00 scoring average on par-4 holes.
Senior Dianchao Wu finished tied for 37th at 4-over, climbing 10 spots on the final day with an even-par 71. Wu opened with a 73 (+2) and tied for 12th in the field with 37 pars.
Jackson McCommon finished tied for 52nd at 7-over. McCommon opened with a 70 (-1) and tied for 15th in the field with a 4.03 scoring average on par-4 holes.
Owen Sawyer also finished tied for 52nd at 7-over. Sawyer opened with a 72 (+1), tied for 25th in the field with a 4.67 scoring average on par-5 holes, and tied for ninth with 38 pars.
Jesse Trembath finished tied for 78th at 17-over after opening with a 75 (+4) and closing with a 76 (+5).
The Cyclones will next compete in the Big 12 Match Play Championship at Salt Lake City Country Club in Salt Lake City, Utah, Oct. 12-14.
