CYCLONES vs. COUGARS
Iowa State and BYU will meet on the gridiron for the seventh time in the schools' history. ISU owns a 5-1 edge in the series, but BYU took the last meeting 41-27 last season in Ames.
This will be the third meeting between the teams as Big 12 Conference foes and the fourth all-time matchup in Provo. The last time the teams met in Provo resulted in a 45-13 Cyclone win in 2023. The Cyclones jumped all over BYU in that game, intercepting a pass on the game's first play, scoring a TD three plays later and then recovering a fumble on the ensuing kickoff. ISU was up 10-0 less than four minutes into the contest.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
It's homecoming week on BYU's campus and Kalani Sitake's Cougars are 4-0 and ranked No. 8 in the country entering Friday's game against the Cyclones. BYU is a well-rounded football team with a top-30 offense and defense nationally. The offense is converting on 57.4 percent of its third downs, which is the fourth-best mark nationally.
With star running back LJ Martin expected to be sidelined due to injury, the Cougar offense will have to lean on Sophomore quarterback Bear Bachmeier. The signal caller is completing 64 percent of his passes this season for 704 yards and six touchdowns against just one interception. While not as elusive as the last two quarterbacks the Cyclones have seen, Bachmeier isn't afraid to put his shoulder down and run with the ball, posing a notable threat on the ground with four rushing TDs on the season. Through the air, he'll look to connect with freshman wide receiver Legend Glasker (14 rec, 279 yds, 2 TD) and Kyler Kasper (11 rec, 138 yds, 2 TD). Glasker also has two rushing TDs on the season and is the second FBS wide receiver over the last 30 years to have multiple rushing/receiving scores through four career games.
Defensively, BYU is expected to be without linebacker Isaiah Glasker. The unit is still solid, however, and ranks No. 17 nationally allowing 14.3 points per game. Through four games, BYU ranks No. 21 nationally allowing 268.0 yards per game. Defensive end Tausili Akana is averaging 1.5 tackles for loss per game, good for No. 14 in the country. He leads BYU with six tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks this year.
BYU is third nationally averaging 42 yards per kick return this season, making it important for Cyclone kicker Kyle Konrardy to get the ball out of the end zone on kickoffs. He has 28 touchbacks on 32 kickoffs this season.

UTAH CONNECTIONS
ISU has a pair of Utah natives on its roster in DE Isaac Terrell (Lehi, Utah) and WR Dominic Overby (West Jordan, Utah). Overby prepped at West Jordan High School in the Salt Lake City suburb, where he was a prep standout, particularly in track and field. Overby was a state champion in long jump and 100m dash, setting school records in both as well as the 200m. Terrell hails from Lehi, Utah where he played at Lehi HS where he was Region 8 Defensive MVP for the Pioneers.
Malaki Ta'ase, a defensive end for the Cyclones, has a family tie to the Cougars. His brother Mata'ava Ta'ase was a tight end for BYU in 2023 and 2024. He made 10 starts and had three TD catches for the Cougars in two seasons.
FLORA RUNS WILD
Aiden Flora was tabbed the Maxwell National Player of the Week, the Maxwell Football Club announced Wednesday. It is yet another weekly honor in the wake of Flora's stand-out performance against West Virginia last weekend.
On Tuesday, the Cyclone was named the Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week, Paul Hornung Award National Player of the Week and Burlsworth Trophy Walk-On of the Week. Flora was already named the AP National Player of the Week and Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Flora had the best game of his career last Saturday in a 45-42 Cyclone win over the Mountaineers. The redshirt-sophomore rushed for 212 yards and three touchdowns and threw for a pair of touchdowns to become the ninth FBS player, and first Big 12 player, since 1996 with two passing touchdowns, three rushing touchdowns and 200 yards rushing in a game. He is the first non-quarterback to do so.
