Iowa State Swimming and Diving (0-1, 0-0 Big 12) will travel to Tallahassee this week to compete in the Florida State Invite, the Cyclones' first invitational of the season.
THE OPPONENTS – Florida State Invite
The invite will take place on October 9th and 10th at the Morcom Aquatics Center. In addition to the Seminoles hosting, the Cyclones will also face Georgia Tech and Purdue.
LAST TIME OUT – Nebraska
Iowa State comes into this week after a loss on the road against Nebraska on October 2nd, but the Cyclones showed grit and growth throughout the entire meet.
Junior Grace Swoboda continued her dominance in Breaststroke by winning both the 100 & 200 Breast. Emma Kuhn also swam well, earning two runner-up finishes in the 100 Free & 200 IM.
In diving, sophomore Iona Moffat got her first collegiate win in the 3-meter, while second place was a Cyclone sweep from freshman Katie Malm in the 1-meter and junior Maggie Bendell in the 3-meter.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR – Breaststroke, Freestyle, and Diving
In addition to Swoboda's top finishes in both breaststroke events, junior Anja Peck was also on the podium, earning two of her three third place finishes in the 100 & 200 Breast.
In every freestyle event against Nebraska, there was at least one Cyclone with a top three finish. Emma Kuhn had her runner-up finish in the 100, Kendall Schindler got third in the 50, Piper Hagen was also third in the 200, and Carlotta Gazzola did the same in the 500 & 1000. So, each swimmer will be looking to improve and go up the podium to a first-place finish.
On the boards, Iona Moffat, Katie Malm, and Maggie Bendell will also look to continue their recent success, with all three achieving NCAA Zone-qualifying scores in their first meet.
ON DECK – Illinois
Iowa State Swimming and Diving will take their talents to Urbana-Champaign in a dual meet against Illinois. This will be a two-day event taking place on October 16-17.
