AMES, Iowa – Iowa State volleyball has announced the addition of Felipe Nogueira as the volunteer assistant coach.
"We are excited to add Felipe to our staff," Head Coach Christy Johnson-Lynch said. "He has a great volleyball background as both a player and coach and came highly recommended from everyone who has worked with him. Felipe's energy and enthusiasm to contribute to Iowa State volleyball was evident from the first time we spoke. He'll fit in well with our staff and the culture we have created at Iowa State, he's a great addition to our program."
The coach comes to ISU with experience at the NCAA Division II and NAIA level, in addition to Division I coaching in the Big West and Western Athletic Conference.
Nogueira previously served as the interim head coach at California State University, Bakersfield for a year. Prior to this, Nogueira was an assistant coach at Seattle University.
From 2021 to 2023, Nogueira led the Grand View men's team. In the 2022 season, he guided GV to a national title in his first year as the head coach, where the team went 27-2. During his time as head coach, Nogueira's student-athletes earned five AVCA All-America honors and one national player of the year award. Nogueira began coaching as an assistant coach at Grand View in 2017 until 2020. Nogueira also helped the Vikings to an NAIA title in 2018.
Between his stints at Grand View, Nogueira coached as an assistant at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. Nogueira also gained coaching experience in Iowa serving as the director of the Dowling Catholic Volleyball Club.
Nogueira compiled a record of 47-11 as a head coach. He is a two-time NAIA national champion and six-time conference champ, and was named to the AVCA 30 Under 30 list in 2023.
Nogueira is a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil. His time in the sport spans over 20 years playing and coaching. In his playing career as an outside hitter at Grand View, Nogueira helped lead the team to a national runner-up finish and earned two all-conference honors. Nogueira earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Grand View University.
