AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State swimming and diving team closed out its final home meet of the season on Thursday at Beyer Pool, earning points across the lineup but falling to Kansas by a score of 89–211.
"Kansas is a strong, well-coached team, and this was a good test for us as we continue to build," said head coach Matt Leach. "Grace Swoboda stepped up again in the breaststroke events, but today was also about our seniors and the energy they brought as they close out their time as Cyclones as we prepare for the Big 12 Championships."
How It Happened
Grace Swoboda led Iowa State with a pair of individual victories, capturing first place in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.77) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:15.94). Swoboda also contributed to the Cyclones' second-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
Kendall Mallers delivered a strong performance in the 200-yard butterfly, finishing second with a time of 2:05.60, and later added points in the 500-yard freestyle. Emma Kuhn posted a runner-up finish in the 200-yard individual medley and was a point contributor for the Cyclones in the backstroke events.
In the distance freestyle races, Carlotta Gazzola placed third in both the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyle events, while Anja Peck, Corinne Guist and Mallers also contributed scoring swims for the Cyclones.
On the boards, Iowa State was led by Kate Mitchell, who earned a victory on the 3-meter board with a new personal best score of 321.08 and added a third-place finish on the 1-meter board (277.05). Abby Tollefson also scored for the Cyclones, placing third on 3-meter and fifth on 1-meter, while Maggie Bendell finished fourth on the 1-meter board.
