Cyclones in Third After the First Day of the Bell Bank Collegiate

LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. - Iowa State sits in third place after the first day of the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate. The Cyclones tied the lowest round of the day in the second round, shooting seven-under par to finish -10 on the day (285-281=566). Iowa State leads the field in Par 5 scoring (-19) and is second in birdies (39) after two rounds. The Cyclones trail Marquette and Nebraska by two and three strokes, respectively, for the lead. Maryland's #137 Emil Riegger leads the pack in the individual race at -9.
Two Cyclones are in the top-10, with both tied for 8th in Paul Beauvy and Zach May. Beauvy sinked two birdies in his final two holes to jump 22 spots and finish three-under on the day. Beauvy has carded the most birdies so far in the tournament with 10 birdies, and is also tied for fourth in Par 5 scoring (-5). May, who is looking to repeat at the Bell Bank Collegate, shot consecutive rounds under par to finish just inside the top-10. That makes it 10 rounds of par or better for May on the season, and he also is tied for sixth in Par 4 scoring (-2) and has nine birdies.
Jackson McCommon is tied for 17th (-2) after the first day, shooting back-to-back 71's. McCommon carded an eagle on his final hole of the day, his third eagle of the season and seventh of his career to go along with eight birdies. Owen Sawyer shot a 70 in the second round to jump 25 spots and tie for 27th at even par. Sawyer also shot -5 on Par 5's, tied for fourth-lowest in the field, and totaled six birdies.
Julian Geerebaert is tied for 41st at +3, after shooting even par in the first round. Geerebaert leads the field in Par 5 scoring at -7, and carded six birdies. Playing as an individual, Drew Hensen is tied for 88th after two rounds of play, carding his first career eagle in the first round along with three birdies.
Tee times for the third and final round of the Bell Bank "Pay It Forward" Collegiate begins at 10 a.m. CT tomorrow morning.
