MANHATTAN, Kansas – The Iowa State tennis team fell to Kansas State, 4-0, Friday evening in the final match of its season. The Cyclones fell short of qualifying for the 10-team Big 12 Tennis Championships, and will finish the season with a record of 4-15 and 3-10 in conference play.
In doubles, Kansas State came out of the gates hot, taking a 4-1 advantage on all three courts. Alicia Dale and Gabriella Kellner were able to fight back and tie their match at 4-4, but the Wildcats took victories on Courts 1 and 2 to clinch the opening point.
In singles, Julia Camblor was the lone Cyclone to take the first set, getting ahead on Diana Smolinska. Camblor wouldn't have a chance to get the victory though, as the match went unfinished thanks to three quick Wildcat victories.
Oklahoma State forfeited its originally scheduled match with the Cyclones on Sunday, which otherwise would have concluded the regular season. The match will be counted as a win for Iowa State in the Big 12 standings, but per NCAA policy, will not affect its overall record.
