SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – The Iowa State Women's Golf team did exactly what you're supposed to do on "Moving Day" at a golf tournament. Move up the leaderboard!
Entering the day in seventh, the Cyclonitas climbed four spots to third place, as they cut 11 strokes off their opening round score. Iowa State's 276 in the second round is the second-lowest NCAA score in school history, behind the 272 in the final round of the 2025 Lubbock Regional. In the 66th NCAA Round in school history, all five players shot 71 or lower for the first time in program history.
Pammy Chookaew had herself a day, as she shot a season-low 67 in the second round. Her six birdies helped her shoot the second-lowest NCAA round in program history, just one stroke behind teammate Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn's 66 last season. Chookaew, ranked No. 51 in the country, will enter the final round of play in a tie for 23rd.
Alexandra Vidal put together the best NCAA round of her career, as she shot a 69. Her four birdies helped her tally the fifth-lowest NCAA round in program history. Vidal is tied for 16th going into the final round.
Nichakorn Pinprayoon, ranked No. 35 in the country, shot a 70 in the second round as she sits in a tie for 16th. Pinprayoon tallied four birdies on the front nine and added another on the back nine. Isabella Yan also shot a 70, as she is tied for 20th going into the final round. Yan had birdies on the first two holes of the day, while adding another one on the back nine.
Karisa Chul-Ak-Sorn rounded out the Cyclone lineup, as she shot a 71 and sits in a tie for 23rd entering the final round. Chul-Ak-Sorn had a pair of birdies on the front nine before adding three more on the back nine.
It was the third career round of 71 or lower at an NCAA event for Pinprayoon, Chul-Ak-Sorn and Chookaew. The trio joins Taglao Jeeravivitaporn (5), Celia Barquin Arozamena (4), Lyana Durisic (3) as the only six players in program history with three or more rounds of 71 or lower at an NCAA event.
No. 19 Houston has the team lead after two rounds at 557, holding a two-stroke lead over No. 7 Auburn (559). No. 18 Iowa State is third at 563, just two strokes ahead of No. 6 Arkansas (565). No. 37 Virginia Tech sits in fifth with a 568, while No. 19 Ole Miss is sixth with a 569. The top five teams after Wednesday's final round advance to the NCAA National Championships in Carlsbad, Calif. May 22-27.
Tee times will start at 7 a.m. (CT) on Wednesday for the Cyclones in the final round at the Louisville Golf Club.
