Captains Announced For 2026 Football Season

AMES, Iowa – Iowa State head coach Jimmy Rogers has announced the team captains for the 2026 football season.
Defensive tackle Max Baloun, cornerback David Coffey, running back Aiden Flora, quarterback Jaylen Raynor, offensive lineman Jake Taylor and defensive end Isaac Terrell will serve as captains in Rogers' first season at the helm.
Max Baloun – RSr. – DT – Redfield, S.D.
A seventh-year senior, Baloun has played his entire career for Rogers, spending five years at South Dakota State and the 2025 season with Washington State. Baloun was a contributor on a pair of national championship teams at SDSU. In 2025, he played and started the first four games for WSU before suffering a season-ending knee injury.
David Coffey – RSo. – CB – Chicago, Ill.
A role player his first two seasons in Ames, the talented defensive back figures to see an increased roll in 2026. Coffey played in nine games a season ago, making his first career start against Arizona State. He had a season-high three tackles and broke up a pass in the season finale against Oklahoma State last season.
Aiden Flora – RSo. – RB – Adel, Iowa
One of the best return men nationally a season ago, Flora is expected to see an increased roll at running back in 2026. When the redshirt sophomore touched the ball last season, explosive plays tended to follow. He was All-Big 12 Second Team as a specialist, averaging 26.1 yards with one touchdown on eight punt returns. His highlight reel was punctuated with a 79-yard punt return for a touchdown that proved to be the game-winner at TCU.
Jaylen Raynor – Sr. – QB – Winston-Salem, N.C.
Raynor's leadership can be explained in many ways, but perhaps the most telling is his ability to lead when his back is against the wall. He enters his senior season with a nation's best eight fourth quarter game-winning drives. He's tied for third nationally with 20 career victories as a starting quarterback. To top all that off, just weeks after arriving on campus, Raynor stood before his teammates and was able to name all 126 of them.
Jake Taylor – RJr. – OL – Las Vegas, Nev.
Jake Taylor joined Iowa State as a transfer from Oklahoma where he started a handful of games for the Sooners while honing his skills against top-notch competition. Injuries have stifled his career to this point, but the Las Vegas native looks to provide leadership and stability along the offensive line.
Isaac Terrell – Sr. – DE – Lehi, Utah
Isaac Terrell is a relentless defensive lineman coming off a career year last season at Washington State while playing for the first time under Rogers and defensive coordinator Jesse Bobbit. Terrell had seven sacks and stands to be a key figure in Iowa State's new four-man front.
