Cyclonitas Win a Second Straight Individual and Team Title

NORMAN, Okla. - Heading into the final hole of the Schooner Fall Classic, Alexandra Vidal sat in a tie for first place with Oklahoma's Satonkan Thiengsri and Emma Zheng one stroke behind them. Thiengsri parred her final hole, whereas Zheng birdied on Hole 18 to create a three-way tie for the lead and looked to earn a second-consecutive individual title to open her career. With Vidal right behind Zheng on Hole 18, she needed a par to share medalist honors, or a birdie to win outright. Vidal carded her tournament-leading 18th birdie to shoot a second-straight round of 66 and earned her first career tournament win at -10.Â
The Cyclonitas ran away with the team title, finishing the Schooner Fall Classic at a tournament record -30 (274-267-269=810), their second-straight team victory to open the season. ISU carded the sixth-lowest round in program history in the final round and the second-lowest 54-hole score in team history to beat second-place and host Oklahoma by 17 strokes. All three rounds of the Schooner Fall Classic are now in the Top-10 lowest rounds in school history, and Iowa State's -30 is the second-lowest under-par score in program history behind an NCAA record -60 performace at the 2023 MountainView Collegiate. ISU led the field in Par 4 scoring (-13) and birdies (62) throughout the tournament.
Vidal's 54-hole score of 200 is the lowest of her career and is third-lowest in school history. All of Vidal's rounds were in the 60's (68-66-66), making it four in total for the season and already matching last year's mark. The junior from Barcelona, Spain was Top-10 in Par 3, 4, and 5 scoring and led the entire tournament in birdies (18).
After winning in her first career tournament last week at the Badger Invitational, Zheng follows it up with a tie for second (-9), just one stroke back from the lead. The freshman's 54-hole score of 201 is tied for the fourth-lowest score in program history. Zheng has now recorded five-straight rounds in the 60's dating back to last week, which includes a career-best 66 in today's final round. The Auckland, New Zealand native led the field in Par 4 scoring average (3.77) and was second in birdies (16).
After recording just one round in the 60's in her first two seasons, Isabella Yan carded three sub-70 rounds at the Schooner Fall Classic to tie for sixth (-6), a career-best finish. Yan shot a career-low 67 in the second round, and her 54-hole score of 204 is tied for seventh-lowest in team history. Yan carded nine birdies to just three bogeys over her three rounds.
Nichakorn Pinprayoon is the fourth Cyclonita to finish in the Top-10, the eleventh time she has accomplished that feat in her career. Pinprayoon shot a 205 (-5), tying the 11th-lowest 54-hole score in ISU history and tallied 12 birdies in the tournament.
Krittiya Thanintorndamrongdej tied a career-best round of 71 in the first and third rounds of the tournament to tie for 46th at five-over par. The sophomore's 215 is the lowest 54-hole score of her career, and she carded seven birdies. Playing as an individual, Aelisa Twiltermsup tied for 84th and totaled six birdies.
The Cyclonitas look to three-peat both individual and team titles to start the 2026-27 season, but will have to wait a couple weeks before heading to Chicago for the Windy City Classic. The tournament will take place on Oct. 5th-6th.
