Van Gorp Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week

AMES, Iowa – Rachel Van Gorp earned her second Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honor this season as the libero helped lead the Cyclones to a 2-0 start in conference play.
It is the fourth defensive weekly honor of Van Gorp's career. Van Gorp also earned her spot on the Big 12 Starting Seven in this week's awards and is the one and only libero to earn multiple defensive honors this season.
Van Gorp opened Big 12 play saving 30 attacks from hitting the court in the road win at Texas Tech. It was the third 30-plus dig match of her career. Van Gorp then followed that up with 23 digs in the win over UCF to stretch her 20-plus dig match streak to three.
The Olathe, Kan. native also had zero service errors on 32 serves, and had one ace. Through 44 receptions Van Gorp had just one error through the week.
Van Gorp continues to lead the Big 12 in digs this season with 4.63 per set. The average ranks 28th through all Division I players.
Iowa State now owns 69 total Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors since the award's 2007 introduction. The league's next highest team total is 32.
Van Gorp returns to action this week as the Cyclones travel to Arizona Oct. 2 and No. 12 Arizona State Oct. 4.
