Tyler Hansen completed his second season as a graduate assistant for the Iowa State men’s basketball program. The Ames, Iowa native assisted the men’s hoops staff in video editing and player development. He also oversaw the student managers.
In 2013-14, Iowa State posted one of the best seasons in school history. The Cyclones finished with 28 wins (28-8), the second most in school history, and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. ISU won championships at the Big 12 Tournament and Diamond Head Classic and defeated a school-record nine teams ranked in the Associated Press top-25.
A pair of Cyclones, Melvin Ejim and DeAndre Kane, earned All-America honors in 2014. Ejim was also named Big 12 Player of the Year, while Kane took home honors as Big 12 Newcomer of the Year.
For the second-straight season, Iowa State led all "power" conference teams with 83.0 points per game. ISU was first nationally averaging 18.4 assists per game, while finishing second in the nation in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.74).
Iowa State made its second-straight NCAA Tournament appearance, went 23-12 overall, tallied a 22-game homecourt winning streak and tied for fourth in the Big 12 (11-7) in Hansen’s first season as a graduate assistant in 2012-13.
A 2012 graduate of Iowa State, Hansen joined the men’s hoops program in 2007 as a student manager and is entering his seventh season working with the team. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in upper education and leadership studies.
