WACO, Texas--Jermaine Alfred threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns as Baylor scored 42 unanswered points to roll past Iowa State, 49-21, in a Big 12 Conference game.
Jerod Douglas and Elijah Burkins combined for 296 yards and three touchdowns running the ball as Baylor (4-3, 1-3 Big 12 South) racked up 624 yards of total offense.
Iowa State (2-5, 1-3 Big 12 North) took a 21-7 lead on Todd Doxon's seven-yard pass to Damian Gibson with 10:54 to play in the second quarter. Clifton Rubin pulled the Bears within 21-14 by halftime on a one-yard plunge.
Alfred lifted Baylor into a tie with an eight-yard scoring toss to Shawn Washington six minutes into the second half. The Bears took the lead for good on a five-yard pass from Alfred to Morris Anderson to make it 28-21 with 5:43 left in the third quarter.
Forty-eight seconds later, Alfred hooked up with Pearce Pegross on a 68-yard scoring pass. Douglas scampered 67 yards in the first minute of the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 42-21 before Burkins added a 24-yard jaunt with 2:57 to play to cap the scoring.
Iowa State tailback Troy Davis had 28 rushes for 138 yards and one touchdown.
