AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State softball team fell to No. 20 Nebraska, 6-0 to close out regular season play Sunday at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Ames, Iowa. The Cyclones ended the regular season with a 17-27 overall record and a 4-14 mark in the Big 12.
The Huskers took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second with the help of Jennifer Williams. With one out and one runner on Williams hit a home run into left centerfield to give Nebraska a 2-0 lead.
With two outs and two runners on in the top of the seventh Husker Alice Brewer hit a single into centerfield scoring Jill Baker and Leigh Suhr to give the Huskers a 4-0 edge. Nebraska added two more runs in the inning as Amber Burgess' two-run single made it a 6-0 ballgame.
Nebraska pitcher and former Ankeny prep Jenny Voss held Iowa State to only three hits. Laura Browning was 1-of-2 at the plate, while Jessica Polo and Lauren Cathey each contributed a hit. Cyclone senior Mandy Loushin recorded the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits, while fanning three.
Iowa State returns to action Wednesday when they take on Baylor at 7:30 at the Big 12 tournament in Oklahoma City, Okla. The winner of that game plays Nebraska at 12:30 on Thursday, May 11.
