TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Iowa State softball fell to Florida State on Thursday in Tallahassee, Fla. Seminole hurler Jen White-Stoke pitched a two hitter to help Florida State defeat ISU, 4-0.
FSU took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning. Serita Brooks drew a walk and then stole second and third. A single by Jessica van der Linden scored Brooks to score the first run of the game. Brandi Stuart doubled to center. Cyclone hurler Erica Martinez proceeded to load the bases and then walked in the second run of the game to give Florida State a 2-0 lead.
The Seminoles padded the lead when they scored one run in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs White-Stoke singled to left center. Elisa Velasco singled up the middle advancing pinch runner Leah Armstrong to second. Natalie Bennet singled to score Armstrong to give FSU a 3-0 lead.
Florida State got its final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth. Brooks walked and then stole second base. Brooks advanced to third on a sacrifice hit by Kimmy Carter. Brooks stole home to give the Noles a 4-0 lead.
Martinez (2-4) recorded the loss for the Cyclones, allowing two runs on five hits while fanning four. Reliever Kristin Ferguson pitched 3 2/3 innings giving up two runs on four hits. Adi Blackmon had Iowa State's two hits of the game.
The Cyclones (9-9) return to action when they take on Syracuse at 11 a.m. and Florida State at 1 p.m. in the first round of the Florida State tournament.
