COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Iowa State softball team split a double header with Missouri Wednesday in a Big 12 match up. ISU lost the first game, 2-1 in eight innings and won the night cap, 2-0.
Missouri edged the Cyclones, 2-1 in the first game. Melanie Fisher recorded her second home run of the season to give MU a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Iowa State battled back in the top of the third as Mindy Ogan belted her first home run of the season to tie the game, 1-1.
The game was tied until the bottom of the eighth inning. Karen Williams singled to short stop. Williams stole second and advanced to third on a ground out by Lindsey Jacoby. Williams scored on a game winning RBI single by Rachael McGinnis to give the Tigers a 2-1 victory.
Cyclone hurler Jen Bice (5-8) recorded the loss, allowing two runs on seven hits while fanning two batters. Senior Kimi Yoshizawa was 2-of-3 at the plate. Adi Blackmon had two hits, while Laura Browning, Kristin Shipley, and Ogan each contributed a hit.
Iowa State took the night cap, 2-0 as Browning paced the Cyclones offensively going 2-of-3 at the plate.
ISU got on the board first scoring one run in the top of the fourth inning. Browning led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a ground out by Blackmon. Browning stole third and scored on a wild pitch to give Iowa State a 1-0 lead.
The Cyclones added another run in the top of the seventh inning. Ogan led off the inning with a single. Shipley reached on an error, advancing pinch runner Ashley Core to second. Core advanced to third and Shipley advanced to second on a Rainey Eanes ground out. Core scored on a fielder's choice, giving Iowa State a 2-0 lead.
Bice (6-8) recorded the win for the Cyclones, giving up five hits. Blackmon and Ogan each contributed a hit.
The Cyclones, 11-17 overall and 1-3 in the Big 12 conference return to action on Saturday when they travel to College Station, Texas to take on Texas A&M for a two game series on April 7-8.
