COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Kimi Yoshizawa was 2-of-3 at the plate with one RBI and two doubles to lead the Iowa State, but the Cyclones fell to No. 23 Texas A&M, 3-2 Sunday at the Aggie Softball Complex.
The Aggies got on the board first scoring two runs in the first inning. Holle Hayden singled to left field. A home run by Kelly Ferguson scored Hayden giving A&M a 2-0.
Texas A&M added another run in the bottom of the second inning. Crystal Martin doubled and advanced to third on a Jennifer Davis single. Martin scored on a wild pitch by Cyclone hurler Erica Martinez making it, 3-0.
Iowa State answered back scoring one run in the top of the third inning. Yoshizawa doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning. An Adi Blackmon ground out advanced Yoshizawa to third. A Mindy Ogan single scored Yoshizawa making it, 3-1.
The Cyclones scored again in the top of the fourth inning. Freshman Rainey Eanes walked and then scored on a RBI double by Yoshizawa to cut the lead to one.
Iowa State hurler Jen Bice (6-10) recorded the loss for the Cyclones, giving up two runs on three hits in one inning. Reliever Erica Martinez allowed one run on seven hits in five innings. Ogan was 1-of-3 at the plate with one RBI. Morgan LeCluyse and Kristin Shipley each contributed a hit.
The Cyclones return to action when they travel to Kansas City, Mo., to take on UMKC Tuesday, April 10 in a double header starting at 3 p.m.
