NORMAN, Okla. -- No. 3 Oklahoma scored eight runs in two innings and defeated the Iowa State softball team, 10-1, on Sunday afternoon at the OU Softball Complex after the Cyclones upset the Sooners, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Cyclones fell to 14-20 overall and 2-5 in Big 12 play. Lindsey Herrin, Jen Bice and Kristen Karanzias all split time at the pitching mound, with Herrin picking up the loss. Her pitching record falls to 3-4. With the win, Oklahoma improves to 32-6 overall and 8-3 in league play.
OU's Kami Keiter picked up the win on the mound, striking out four batters and giving up only one hit.
Oklahoma outhit the Cyclones, 8-2, had only one error to ISU's one error. OU got on the scoreboard right away with a pair of runs in the first inning and then had a big second inning, scoring four runs on four hits. After a scoreless third inning, the Sooners scored four more runs in the fourth inning. ISU finally got on the board with a run by pinch runner Heather McLatchie in the top of the fifth inning off a Cary Akins single.
Akins led the way for ISU with two hits and one RBI. McLatchie added the run for the Cyclones. Molly McNertney also added a walk for ISU. ISU also had 12 putouts.
Iowa State will start a two-game homestand on Tuesday, April 8, when the Drake Bulldogs come to town. ISU defeated Drake, 5-0, back on March 27.
