MARIETTA, Ga. ? Junior Misty Kimura hit a home run and scored two runs to help lead Iowa State past Mercer, 4-2, Friday afternoon in the team's first game in the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic Tournament. With the win, Iowa State's record improves to 6-13. Kimura went 2-for-3 from the plate and also had two RBI. Iowa State got seven solid innings from freshman pitcher Alyssa Ransom, who struck out six Mercer batters and gave up only one earned run.
The Cyclones jumped on the scoreboard right away with two runs in the first inning and had a 4-1 lead until Mercer scored one more run in the sixth inning to give Iowa State the 4-2 win. The Cyclones had seven hits to Mercer's five and each team had one error.
Iowa State continues at the 2004 Georgia Tech Buzz Classic Tournament with a 5 p.m. game against Florida A&M. Saturday's lineup has changed slightly as Iowa State will take on Big Ten member Minnesota at 4 p.m., instead of Boston University.
