Iowa State Falls to Baylor, 6-2

WACO, Texas ? Kelly Wardein had two hits and Julia Lindsey added two RBI, but it wasn't enough as Baylor defeated Iowa State, 6-2, Sunday at Baylor's Getterman Stadium. The game was scheduled to be part of a doubleheader, but was changed to a single game due to continuing rain in the Waco area. With the loss, Iowa State's record falls to 11-26 overall and 1-9 in Big 12 play. Baylor improves to 40-12 overall. Freshman Alyssa Ransom was on the mound for the Cyclones, her record falling to 8-15 overall.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when Baylor's Carrie Leerberg hit a single to center field, sending Amber Daniel and Danelle Arnold home to give the Lady Bears a 2-0 lead. ISU got on the board in the top of the fifth inning when Lindsey hit a hard single to right field that sent senior Ashley Core home. But the Lady Bears came back hard in the bottom of the inning when Daniel scored and then Kelly Osburn hit a three-run home run to give Baylor a 6-2 lead after five innings.

The Cyclones added one more run in the top of the seventh when Lindsey hit a sacrifice fly that advanced runners to second and third and sent freshman Katie Reichling home for the score. But ISU's rally fell short and fell to Baylor, 6-2.

Iowa State had five hits and two errors compared to Baylor's eight hits and one error. Lindsey (1), Ashley Killeen (1), Misty Kimura (1), and Wardein (2) all had hits for the Cyclones.

Iowa State will play host to Missouri in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 28, starting at 2 p.m. at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Ames. The second game will begin approximately 20 minutes after the first game. The Cyclones will play host to their last home game series of the season April 30 and May 1 when Oklahoma comes to town. Cyclone seniors Julia Lindsey, Ashley Core and Kelly Wardein will be honored.
