Texas A&M Shuts Out Iowa State, 3-0

AMES, Iowa ? The Iowa State softball team fell 3-0 to Texas A&M Saturday afternoon at the Southwest Athletic Complex. The Cyclones fell to 9-18 on the season and 1-2 in the Big 12 Conference. Freshman Alyssa Ransom was on the mound for the Cyclones, her record falling to 7-9. It was her 13^th complete game of the season. With the win, Texas A&M's record improves to 21-16 and 3-1 in league play. Texas A&M's Jessica Kapchinski (6-5) picked up the win on the mound, striking out 10 batters and giving up one hit.

The game was scoreless through the first three innings when a Kristin Gunter single to left drove in Jana James and Adrian Gregory to give the Aggies a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth. Lisa Gorzycki, who pinch ran for Gunter, scored the third and final run on a throwing error by Cyclone shortstop Cary Akins in an attempt to get Laura Durham at first. Gorzycki moved into scoring position after stealing second and advanced to third on a fly out by Nicole Robinson.

Texas A&M had three hits to ISU's one, while the Cyclones had two errors to the Aggies one. Freshman Jessica Quade had ISU's lone hit when she singled to left field in the second inning.

“We couldn't get our offense on track today,” head coach Ruth Crowe said. “But I thought we handled the windy conditions pretty well and Alyssa (Ransom) pitched a great game on the mound. We need to get our bats going in tomorrow's game.”

Iowa State will play Texas A&M on Sunday in the final game of the weekend series. Game time is get for noon at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
