AMES, Iowa - Junior Kim Rodgers hit her first double of the season and the Cycloens got hits from Misty Kimura and Jennifer Bigbee but it was enough as Oklahoma defeated Iowa State, 6-1, Friday afternoon at the Southwest Athletic Complex. With the loss, Iowa State's record falls to 11-29 overall and 1-12 in Big 12 play. Oklahoma improves to 37-6 overall. Freshman Alyssa Ransom was on the mound for the Cyclones and struck out five OU batters. Her record falls to 8-17.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when OU's Jamie Fox hita double and scored Norrelle Dickson and Heather Scaglione to give the Sooners a 2-0 lead. ISU got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when Rodgers hit her first double of the season, sending pinch runner Fallon Johnson past home plate for the score. After four innings, OU led, 2-1. The rest of the game was all Oklahoma as the Sooners posted two more runs in the fifth inning when Kritin Vesely scored off a Dickson single and Dickson scored off an error by ISU's center fielder. ISU's offense stalled in the bottom of the fifth and OU led 4-1 after five innings. After a scoreless sixth inning, OU added two more runs n the top of the seventh when Jessica Leslie singled to left field, sending home Vesely and Dickson. The Cyclones tried to rally in the seventh, but OU pitcher Kami Keiter struck out two Cyclone batters to end the rally as OU defeated the Cyclones, 6-1.
Iowa State had three hits and one error compared to Oklahoma's six hits and two errors.
"We mad esome really stupid mistakes today, " head coach Ruth Crowe said. "There were a lot of routine plays that we should've had and we didn't. But I thought Alyssa Ransom threw a good game for us in the mound. Her play kept us in the game for awhile."
Iowa State and Oklahoma State will play again on Saturday, May 1, starting at 11 a.m. Seniors Ashley Core, Kelly Wardein and Julia Lindsey will be honored in a pre-game ceremony.
