AMES, Iowa ? The 2005 season officially came to an end for the Iowa State softball team with a 6-0 loss to Nebraska in the play-in round of the Big 12 Tournament at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. The Cyclones conclude the year with an 18-32 overall record.
The Iowa State offense was held in check by Cornhusker hurler Ashley DeBuhr who only allowed two hits in the complete game performance. Earlier this season in Lincoln, DeBuhr threw a perfect game against the Cyclones in a 2-0 Nebraska victory on April 13. The only ISU players to pick up a hit in Wednesday's contest were sophomores Jessica Quade and Katie Reichling. Quade singled to right in the fourth inning, while Reichling's hit came in the sixth when she singled to right.
The setback to the Huskers marks 22 consecutive losses to Nebraska dating back to the 1999 season, including a 0-4 mark in Big 12 Tournament play. Nebraska also defeated Iowa State in Ames 11-5 in eight innings on April 27. The Cyclones now own a 4-13 record in the Big 12 Tournament.
Wednesday's outing also marked the final contest in the careers of ISU seniors Kim Rodgers, Misty Kimura and Diana Reuter.
