Maureen Troller's second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field off of Alyssa Ransom (5-6), extended the Western Illinois lead to 3-0. The Westerwinds got on the board earlier in the fourth inning with a RBI single by Elysha Swider that plated Ashley Gilland to open the scoring.
Nicole Green added another home run in the top of the seventh as Western Illinois' lead went to 4-0.
Iowa State, which stranded five base runners in the game, got a leadoff single from Jessica Quade to start the seventh. The Cyclones were unable to do any more as Ferguson (2-5) retired pinch runner Stephanie Mosley on a fielder's choice and got Jennifer Bigbee and Cary Akins out to end the game.
Ransom (5-6) tossed a complete game for the Cyclones, allowing four runs on six hits.
Ferguson struck out eight Cyclones in the game.
