AMES, Iowa - Iowa State (4-6) scored 11 runs on six hits in the sixth inning to defeat Central Connecticut State (0-1), 15-1, on Friday in the Charleston Southern Tournament in Summerville, S.C.
Ashley Killeen cashed in on three straight walks to open the sixth inning with a three RBI double to increase Iowa State's lead to 7-1 with no outs. The Cyclones added to their lead, scoring seven more runs before the first out was recorded in the inning.
Cary Akins, Jennifer Bigbee and Katie Reichling each had run scoring hits in the sixth inning to boost the Iowa State lead to 15-1.
Alyssa Ransom sent the Blue Devils down in order in the bottom of the sixth to secure the win.
Killeen, who opened the scoring in the first with a sacrifice fly to score Ellen Buehner, went 1-for-4 with four RBI to pace the Cyclone offense. Buehner was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI in the game while Reichling drove in three RBI.
Ransom (2-3) allowed just one run on four hits to pick up the win for Iowa State.
