AMES, Iowa - Katie Reichling hit two home runs and Iowa State scored 12 first inning runs en route to a 14-0 win over South Dakota State in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader at Southwest Athletic Complex on Tuesday.
With the win, Iowa State (22-22) got back to .500 on the year while South Dakota State fell to 18-28.
Reichling belted a grand slam in the first inning and a two-run homer in third to post a career-high six RBI in the win.
The big first inning started with a leadoff single by Fallon Johnson. Kristy Olsen then bunted to reach base and Ashley Killeen walked to load the bases. Reichling then stepped to the plate and hit a towering shot off the scoreboard in right centerfield to put Iowa State on top 4-0 with no outs.
The Cyclones again loaded the bases with three straight singles by Jessica Quade, Jennifer Bigbee and Stephanie Mosley. Pinch runner Ellen Buehner came across on an infield hit by Cary Akins and Bigbee scored on a bases loaded walk to Lindsey Black, making it 6-0 with no outs.
The offensive explosion didn't end there as Johnson picked up her second hit of the inning to score Mosley. Black and Akins came across on an error by the Jackrabbits and Killeen hit a sacrifice fly to score Johnson. The run batted in was Killeen's 38th of the season, matching the single season record set by Lisa Leinen in 1989.
Reichling singled in a run for her fifth RBI of the inning and Mosley added another run scoring single to make it 12-0 after one inning of play.
That was plenty of scoring for starter Amie Ford, who tossed two innings of one-hit ball before being replaced by Reichling for the final three innings.
The Cyclones added another run on a double by Johnson in the second inning and Reichling ripped her second homer, a solo shot to right field, in the third inning to complete the scoring for Iowa State.
Reichling and Johnson each went 3-for-4 with Reichling driving in six RBI and Johnson driving in a pair of runs in the win. Reichling (1-0) also got her first win of the year after allowing just one hit in relief.
Mosley, Olsen and Quade each recorded a pair of hits and Heidi Hageman got her first career hit, a single through the left side in the fourth.
Iowa State will jump back into conference action tomorrow when they host Missouri in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
